This painting is called “Kalkatungu” which means Kalkadoon in the Kalkadoon language.

The Kalkadoon people have ruled the emu foot province for at least the last 60,000 years and have been connected to their lands through their dreaming stories, songs and art.

The rock python, emu foot, kangaroo, goanna, kangaroo tracks, rain, rivers, permanent waterholes, campsites and waterholes represents the symbols the Kalkadoon people have used in their rock art for thousands and thousands of years. The red dots represent “Battle Mountain” where in 1884 over 900 Kalkadoon warriors stood up to the first paramilitary force ever assembled in Australia and gave their lives fighting for their lands.
