This painting is called “Mantiana” which means upstream, up the river in the Kalkadoon language.

The tortoise, eels, black bream, crocodile and yabbie represent the life the river gives to many different animals who rely on the rivers life for their own survival. The Kalkadoon people also rely on the rivers life for their survival as many animals in and around the river were used as a source of food.
