To Swim Side by Side - Wani-Wani Watina
My name is Brooke Sutton and I am a contemporary Indigenous artist from the Kalkadoon people from the Mount Isa area in Queensland.
This is my interpretation of “Wani-Wani Watina” which means in the Kalkadoon language “To swim side by side”.
The Kalkadoon people have a strong connection to the sea as they used to travel north to the gulf country to hunt and gather food and my painting depicts the graceful agility and beauty of the sea and the sea creatures that have learned to live together with respect.
